Do you ever get the feeling that you have no control over your next move in life?
Since I got back to the United States about 2 weeks ago, I have traveled throughout the southern US visiting friends, talking with businesses, and spending a lot of time driving in my truck. Most days when I wake up, I do not know where I will be sleeping that night or even what town I will end up in. I have slept on couches, dorm room floors, and at rest stops along the journey. My truck has turned into my closet as well and mode of transportation.
You are probably asking why? Bryan, why in the world are you doing that? There has to be a reason.
Yes there is a reason. I am on an adventure to find a job that combines my degrees of Accounting and Finance with a great company whose culture meshes with my personal values.
We all have heard the news reports and grim stories about how the economy is in the tank right now. Jobs are supposed to be hard to come by. I simply will not accept that as a cop-out for not trying to find a job that I will enjoy. Yes, the economy is not performing as well as it has in past years. Yes, the arena of finance is not doing well, but I also know that there will always be people willing to hire talent who show enthusiasm, intelligence, and people skills that can get the job done. I like to think I am one of those people, but then again, I assume all people have a self inflated point of view at least to some extent.
This morning I am in Oklahoma City. Tonight I will be in Dallas to continue the hunt for a job. Next week, who knows? I honestly do not know where I will be one week from now. Hopefully I will begin to hear back from companies and people I have spoken with, but that is not a guarantee. Until then, I continue to press on to be a determining factor in my future instead of allowing life to just pass me by. Even in the face of uncertainty, you can be proactive and shape your next move.
